Climate Change and the Plastic Problem

So after two and a half long years, I have a Master’s in Ocean and Earth Science. Great. Now what? Well most people think that this means I should work as a marine biologist studying sea turtles, or maine botanist. I did not study sea turtles or botany and frankly, biological oceanography was my worst subject. I spent the last two years becoming very passionate about 2 things. 1. Climate change. 2. Plastics.

Passion 1. Climate Change

We are currently on a path t doomsdale and I am very passionate about telling people about this. I want the general public to understand that their lives and their children’s lives are in danger. No only for people living in low-lying coastal areas where sea level rise will wash them away, but also people living in cold snowy areas. There are so many symptoms of climate change that no person, animal, or thing will avoid it. Learn more about these symptoms of climate change.

Passion 2. Plastics

Plastics are horrible. We are clogging up are waterways and creating gigantic patches or plastic garbage in the oceans. And while this may not sound bad enough, the plastics are getting into our food because it is being eaten. THe plastics are in our air so we are breathing it in. The plastics are in our drinking water, so we are ingesting it through hydration. And while we dont know exactly how this is bad for us yet. I think we can all agree that no one would willing start eating a plastic water bottle, or take a bite out of their plastic toothbrushes. Learn more about the plastic problem.

so yeah I have a Master’s in Ocean and Earth Science but:

How do I do something about climate change? How do I do something about the plastic problem?

I do not know.

And that is okay, for now. There are a lot of people making small efforts all across the globe. And a lot of people creating a massive conservation about climate change (Thank you Greta Thunberg and so many other young activists). But how do I get a paying job working to help my city and neighborhood mitigate and adapt to climate change? Lessen and eliminate the use of plastics in my home? What jobs are available for me to do this?

I think there are a lot of people who have studied what I have studied and are asking the same questions but are funnelled into these typical “Environmental Science” or “Environmental Engineer” or “Marine Biologist” or “Physical Scientist” job titles that are kinda, sorta on the right track and are kinda sorta related to working for the environment. But I want to work for a company that says we are looking for help to stop this crisis. To adapt and change and learn about this crisis. We are working with local people to help then learn and adapt and change in order to stop this crisis.
